Members of the Comox Valley Naturalists Society had a bird walk in Paradise Meadows on Thursday . Five birders saw or heard 21 species:
Sooty Grouse
Pacific Wren
Turkey Vulture
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Red-breasted Sapsucker
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Hairy Woodpecker
American Robin
Northern Flicker
Varied Thrush
Olive-sided Flycatcher
Wilson’s Warbler
Gray Jay
Chipping Sparrow
Steller’s Jay
Dark-eyed Junco
Common Raven
Red Crossbill
Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Pine Siskin
Brown Creeper
The highlights for the birders were the number of Whiskey Jacks! (Gray Jays)
The official Strathcona Bird Search will take place later in June at Buttle Lake area and in July at Mount Becher area.
