First Buttle Area Trail Report

Gerry Roberts, volunteer operator of the Buttle Lake Info Hut, has sent the first trail conditions report of the 2013 season.

STRATHCONA PARK TRAIL CONDITIONS off Highway 28 and Westmin Road

OFF HIGHWAY 28
LADY FALLS – Small snow patch in parking area. Trail clear with one wet and muddy area.
ELK RIVER VIEW TRAIL – Small snow patch in parking area. Trail clear.
KINGS PEAK – Start of access road off highway clear of snow. Rest of road and trail not
checked but suspect snow on road in shaded areas and on trail, lots of snow above 400 metres level.
ELK RIVER TRAIL – Small snow patch in parking area. Trail not checked but suspect lots of
snow above 400 metres level; avalanche areas will be difficult and risky.
CREST MOUNTAIN TRAIL – Parking area clear of snow and start of trail, snow parches in the trees very soon after. There appears to be lots of snow above 400 metres level.
CREST LAKE PICNIC AREA – Some snow on access road but not deep. Picnic area clear of snow.
CREST CRAGS CLIMBING AREA – Deep snow on access road and snow in parking area.
 
 OFF WESTMIN ROAD
LUPIN FALLS – Parking and picnic areas, the trail and path to the beach clear of snow.
AUGER POINT – Parking and picnic areas, the trail and path to the beach clear of snow.
KARST CREEK – Parking and picnic areas, the trail and boat launch clear.

 

Gerry notes that he may be able to check the remaining short trails on the weekend.
