Intrepid snowshoer & photographer Tim Penney has ventured up to Paradise Meadows several times recently, experiencing the gamut of weather conditions.
“Three of us broke trail out to Battleship Lake yesterday (Sunday) in some rather miserable weather. By the time we got back to the Raven Lodge it was snowing heavily and steadily got worse as the wind picked up. We left the Lodge at around 2:00 PM in blizzard conditions with visibility not much more than a few feet. The traffic was almost bumper to bumper to the junction with lots of delays to merge with the cars from the downhill area. We were lucky to get away when we did as the road was closed after we left. On the way down the hill there were numerous vehicles stuck in ditches or beside the road. Luckily none were blocking the road completely so we eventually made it to the bottom.”
“I was up there today (Monday) as well and 2 of us broke trail out to Battleship Lake again. The weather was so much better today and with all the fresh snow the scenery was about as good as it gets.”
“The Wilderness Centre has a lot more snow on and around it than a week ago, but nothing that should present any problems.”
