Several activities are on the schedule for the upcoming weekend. A new program at the Wilderness Centre this year is a talk on “What Happened to the Tsolum?” by Jack Minard of the Tsolum River Restoration Society on Saturday August 17 at 1 p.m. This is a timely topic given the possibilities of increased mining in the Comox Valley area. Pre-registration is not required for this talk but be aware that there is limited space for the indoor presentation.
On Sunday August 18 Julian Brooks will guide a hike to Johnston & Panther Lakes. Meet at 8 a.m. at the Wilderness Centre for this strenuous 20 km, 8 hr hike. Pre-registration is required at coordinator(at)strathconapark(dot)org
Also on August 18, at 1 pm , SWI hosts the return of Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society . MARS Ambassador Great Horned Owl BRINLEY and handler Reg Westcott will be at the Wilderness Centre outdoor amphitheatre from 1 to 3 pm for a presentation on wildlife and how we affect them.
