Strathcona Parkway & Park Report

Road work is ongoing up the Strathcona Parkway to the Wilderness Centre & Mount Washington. The chipsealing of the road is apparently on schedule so should be completed in a week or so. In the meantime allow an extra 10-20 minutes if travelling up the hill!

Yesterday’s Centre staffing volunteer Chris notes that hikers reported about half the tent platforms at Lake Helen Mackenzie are free of snow. Several hikers have been going around the Battleship/Helen Mackenzie loop but some who ventured toward Croteau Lake reported they lost the trail in the snow. Today a large youth group headed out for Mt. Albert Edward, planning to spend several days in the Park – hopefully we will hear a trail conditions report when they come out!

We placed several plant identification signs in the meadows on Saturday, identifying some of the early flowers as well as many of the trees & shrubs. These will work together with the new Paradise Meadows Interpretive Nature Walk brochure to facilitate a self-guided nature walk around the meadows. Stop in to the Centre to pick up a copy of the brochure – only $2 (just covers the printing cost).
