Thanksgiving Weekend

Beautiful weather again for the Thanksgiving long weekend, and lots of families & visitors were taking advantage of the sunny days for an outing to Paradise Meadows. A secondary school group from Campbell River hiked out from a multi-day trip to Mt. Albert Edward – what a fantastic and memorable outing for any student.

Many people reported the fall colours are spectacular this year, and families of all ages and abilities were enjoying the trails. On a less positive note, there were many reports of people feeding whiskey jacks, in spite of the numerous signs around the trailhead – feeding of any wildlife is not permitted in any Provincial Park! and last week there were several reports of mountain bikers around Battleship Lake – bikes are not allowed anywhere in Strathcona Park. While the great majority of people visiting respect the Park, it is sad to see there are some who disrespect the wilderness.

A reminder that there are numerous items in the Lost & Found at the Wilderness Centre – many hats, kids’ sweaters, sunglasses (including a prescription pair), a bike light, a hiking pole, and other odds & ends. Please contact us to claim any items.
