Summer flowers are ending but berries are flourishing in Strathcona Park.
King gentian seems much more widespread in the meadows this year, and the blooms are fully open – in contrast to some years when the flowers never open due to a late start.
Another beautiful scene of the ponds on the Lake Helen Mackenzie trail – thanks to Pam for the above photos!
Fireweed is abundant along the roadsides & cottongrass in the wet meadow areas.
One of the hikes on the weekend was the trail up to Mt Becher. A viewpoint overlooking Boston Lake is a great place for a break.
From the top of Mt Becher there is a great view of the Comox Glacier.
Butterflies were out & about, including this skipper enjoying the warm rocks.
The nature walk on Sunday found lots of blueberries, as well as other seeds including the colourful berries of clasping twistedstalk.
This striking grass in the Big Pond of the meadows is probably narrow-leaved bur-reed.
