Winter Conditions

Photographer Tim Penney visited Paradise Meadows yesterday & sends this report:

“Did a Mackenzie/Battleship Lakes circuit yesterday in real winter conditions. Snow shoes were not really essential, but certainly made the trip easier in the 12″ of fresh snow. I guess this is the end of the fall colours for another year. The day was not sunny and the lighting rather flat for photography, but it was fun to be out on snowshoes again.”

Snowy Lake Helen Mackenzie

“Fresh tracks of a bear out for a walk in the snow just below Battleship Lake and heading down towards Helen Mackenzie Lake. We didn’t see the critter, but came across his tracks again lower down towards the meadows.”

Animal Tracks in the Snow

“Brush off your snowshoes and get ready for some outings!” Tim concludes.

  1. It looks beautiful!

I’m really looking forward to my first snowy weekend in Strathcona!

Winter road condition updates for the road up to Paradise Meadows would be greatly appreciated in future posts.

  2. Thanks for your note Mike! A good resource for conditions (including road, weather & avalanche) is the CDMC website at http://comoxhiking.com/init/default/page/conditions (includes a link to DriveBC for road reports)
